Last Monday, Lori and I want to Mt. Rainier to visit Tara.. We celebrated her birthday and then camped out with the dogs. Lori was terrified of bears. I wished Tara had remembered her sleeping bag so wouldn't have had to fight for the warmth of mine. The next day we decided to start a hike to Camp Muir. This is the base camp for Rainier. We started out in deep snow and it only thickened. I gave Lori my trekking poles and carried my camera and all my lenses. The hike was awesome. We had to wear sunglasses even though there was serious overcast. The snow was blinding and the winds were strong. once we reached pebble creek we decided to turn around. we also heard helicopters and saw one in the distance preparing to rescue a climber. The trail ends at pebble creek and icefields compose the rest of the hike. We decided that we would return with crampons and proper gear to finish this hike in the future. the hike down was quick and steep. Lori led the way and we ate at the cafe and warmed our hands and feet inside. Later the sun came back and has been promising a daily return. We will see how long this will last. Until then.... kent is almost over
I am at the kent library with a bag of carrots hanging over the side of the table. I waited outside for an hour before they actually opened. The Farmers Market was in full swing less the a block away from me. I walked to the bank and took 50 dollars out of my account so I had money for the week. In the past two hours I have made a decision that I will go to alaska this thursday. I will go if the universe wants me there. I feel like the world is conspiring for me to be there. I found a rideshare on craigslist.org and as long as I can find a way back to Seattle I will leave. I will take off work for a few weeks I will pack a backpack with necessities and I will calm and quiet this screaming voice in the back of my mind. It only gets louder as the days pass. The weather has been warming. Work has been horrible then misrible and now its better. We have been spending alot of time on the top of Si. My ears pop on the way down in the same place every day. I get to spend my lunch breaks scrambling up scree and rock slabs to find the summit. I eat in peace.
